The Stranger

I knelt to talk to God today
As I so often do;
Lord you've given me so much
What can I give you?

Whatever could I buy you Lord
Whatever could I bring?
There's nothing left in this whole world
For You own everything.

A gentle sound came from my door
I heard her say in fright;
I'm sorry to have bothered you, but...
I thought I saw your light.

She stood right there by my door
I whispered, "Come on in... "
I hope I'm not intruding,
But I really need a friend.

Her eyes were gazing at the floor
As she lowered her head in shame;
Then I noticed all at once
That her right foot was lame.

For a while she just sat there...
Staring, not speaking a word;
I'll never forget the words she spoke
Were the saddest that I'd ever heard.

Life hasn't been so kind to me,
Like you, I once was cheerful;
Now I'm alone, I need a job,
And no one needs a cripple.

I felt those tears wail up inside
"Lord send her help" I pled,
And instantly God spoke to me
" I just did "....... He said.
